General Information

If you are an Icelandic citizen and carry a Machine Readable Passport, you generally do not require a visa to travel to the U.S. for holiday and business trips of 90 days or less, unless you have a negative criminal, medical or immigration history.  For additional information go to Visa Waiver page

Applying for a visa At the Embassy - Interviews

Applicants for U.S. visas must come to the Embassy to be interviewed. 

  • Applicants need to make an appointment online. Please notice that in order to make an appointment, one must first fill out on-line the main application form DS-156. A barcode number from the form DS-156 is necessary to gain access to the appointment system. Links to the appointment systems are found at the bottom of the checklist for each visa category.
  • Applicants should bring the application and all accompanying documents, including a self-addressed, stamped envelope at the time of the interview.
  • Please bring originals or certified copies of all of your documents to your interview.
  • Please make time to wait for your appointment. The process may take up to an hour.
  • Applicants, with the exception of children under age 14, must appear in person for the interview. 

NOTE: The Embassy cannot ensure same day service. 

We recommend that you do not buy a non-refundable flight ticket before you receive your visa.

Form I-94 or Form I-94W

Whether you travel to the U.S. on the visa waiver program or with a visa, it is important to ensure that your I-94 or I-94W card is removed from your passport prior to your departure from the United States. For more information click here
